Choisya 'Goldfingers':

The original plant growing in my garden Longstock England 2007

After I raised Choisya Aztec Pearl, the next challenge was to try and create a gold form with narrow leaves. Over the next 10 years, in fact every May , flowers were prepared on Choisya 'Sundance' to receive pollen from Choisya arizonica.

Every year all the seedlings were rejected . I was just about to give up when finally a small gold leaf appeared, in the last plug tray of seedlings.

The seedling were potted up into 7cm pots and by the autumn were  small bushy plants.

Then through the winter of 1994-5 the original leaves turned lime green with the lengthening and warmer days of spring, strong shoots of gold, open to the sun.

Goldfingers is more compact than  'Sundance'

It is more suitable for the front of the border. The leaves remain gold through out the year. and you seldom see burning of the leaves.  even in high summer.

Trials in Northern Italy 2006 came to the same conclusion.

The  new gold leaves are narrow but slightly widen with age and become lime green ,with white flowers tinged pink  on the opening petals.  It can take a year or so to establish but well worth the wait.
