I am an independent Plant Breeder developing a wide range of hardy garden plants for the temperate regions of the world.

I worked for Hillier Nurseries for 36 years in the Propagation Department. Here I learnt the skills of plant breeding from the great Hillier Propagator, Peter Dummer.

My first great success was Choisya 'Aztec Pearl', germinated in 1983 and was launched by Hillier at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1989. Weigela 'Dark Horse' followed in 1997 and was marketed by PlantHaven in the USA.

In 1999, after 10 years of intensive breeding Choisya 'Goldfingers' was launched through Hillier's and Plantnet, an international marketing network group. And in 2005 Buddleja 'Silver Anniversary' (Syn Morning Mist) was launched through Farplants and Longstock Park Nursery.

In 1997 I left Hillier's and took up the position has The Propagator at Longstock Park Nursery in Hampshire. I have now semi -retired working 2-3 days a week. I'm still responsible for the National Collection of Buddleja  held at the nursery.

As a hobby I spend hundred's hours developing new plants. These are extensively trialled in my garden before being released to the trade. The aims of this website are to give an insight into the work involved in developing new plants and to give gardeners more information.

Dear Peter

-I was very pleased to read in the Grower of your Lifetime Achievement Award. You must be delighted. It was. thoroughly deserved and it was good to see the award go to an Ornamentals Grower rather than a 'Veggie'. Many congratulations.

ProVaR breeder member Peter Moore won the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Grower of the Year Awards in London last week. Some 500 professionals from across UK production horticulture attended the event held at London\'s Lancaster Hotel, which was hosted by TV's Paul Ross.

During his speech Peter was clearly delighted to receive the award and thanked ProVaR for all the assistance that they had given him in promoting his breeding work and also announced the establishment of a charitable trust that will collect royalties from his plants and give the monies to charity in the future. Peter humorously described his ageing process "In recent months I’ve chronicled my rapid decline into crumble old age. My failing eye sight, hearing and decaying mouth are signs I won’t see 60 again."

ProVaR currently offers 7 of Peter's plants including the newly released Buddleja 'Pink Pagoda'. More new varieties are due to be added for the 2011-12 season.
