I am an independent Plant Breeder developing a wide range of hardy garden plants for the temperate regions of the world. I worked for Hillier Nurseries for 35 years in the Propagation Department. Here I learnt the skills of plant breeding from the great Hillier Propagator, Peter Dummer. My first great success was Choisya 'Aztec Pearl', germinated in 1983 and was launched by Hillier at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1989. Weigela 'Dark Horse' followed in 1997 and was marketed by PlantHaven in the USA. In 1999, after 10 years of intensive breeding Choisya 'Goldfingers' was launched through Hillier's and Plantnet, an international marketing network group. And in 2005 Buddleja 'Silver Anniversary' (Syn Morning Mist) was launched through Farplants and Longstock Park Nursery. Since 1997 I have worked as Propagator at Longstock Park Nursery in Hampshire. I am also custodian over The National Collection of Buddlejas and the Penstemon held at the nursery. As a hobby I spend many hours developing new plants. These are extensively trialled in my garden before being released to the trade. The aims of this website are to give an insight into the work involved in developing new plants and to give gardeners more information.
